The first class of Brown | RISD Dual-Degree students began in Fall 2008. The Brown | RISD Dual-Degree Program is open to students upon admission to both RISD and Brown, and who have applied and been accepted to the Dual Degree Program through the regular admissions process. Current students, readmits, and new transfer students are not eligible. Learn more about the Brown | RISD Dual-Degree program here.
Students may apply to either RISD or Brown early decision, however, students admitted must subsequently submit a regular decision application to RISD or Brown. Candidacy for the Brown | RISD Dual-Degree Program will not be considered until the regular decision round and will be released in the Brown applicant portal.
For the BRDD class of 2028 and earlier, RISD's degree requirement is 14 Liberal Arts courses with the distribution:
4 courses in Theory and History of Art and Design (including THAD H101)
10 courses in Liberal Arts (may be taken at RISD or Brown)
For the BRDD class of 2029 and later, RISD's degree requirement is 13 Liberal Arts courses with the distribution:
4 courses in Theory and History of Art and Design (including THAD H101)
9 courses in Liberal Arts (may be taken at RISD or Brown)
RISD programs with a "History of" course must fulfill that requirement; the THAD or Liberal Arts requirements would be reduced accordingly. Program requirements for each RISD major are available here.
In place of Non-Major Studio Electives, BRDD students must earn 12 additional credits of Open Electives, which can be filled with any course at Brown or RISD. BRDD students must participate in 2 Wintersession terms, one in their first year. Additionally, BRDD students must deliver a Capstone Presentation during their final year in the program.
