3-DIMENSIONAL DRAWING
How do artists know which graphical tools to use when they have a need to represent sculptural objects? Throughout human history, many uniquely propositional graphic works depicting sculptural objects in space have reflected properties, methods and materials that are native to the technological advances of their era. In this era of digital ubiquity, the cutting edge manual tools at the origins of dimensional representation can be easily overlooked or forgotten. This studio proposes a fresh look at those analog tools and methods of 3 dimensional representation by remaking, bending and hacking them. Experiencing and rethinking these manual tools and methods in parallel with learning the core basics in 3D Software, (Rhino 3D) we will build pathways toward individualized methods of dimensional drawing for sculpture. This studio will engage the Sculpture Department's Digital Fabrication Lab and provide students with the core software skills to use digital 3D output within the department and Co-Works. Students will experience methods in observational, technical, digital and photographic tools that may be harnessed, combined, bent and hacked to aid problem solving in object creation.
Estimated Materials Cost: $50.00 - $100.00
